I think it depends on why they messed up in the first place.
You cheat on someone - No
If you are in the wrong place at the wrong time- maybe
If you regret what you did? - yes
if you want to work to be better - yet
so its all relative

I get 3 compliments the most.
1. you have really nice teeth/smile
2. you have a nice hair
3. your a good/nice person.

the third one gets me most embarrased
